Sound Treatment
Our traditional sound treatment feature for those who do not know the what, why, or how.
We talk a lot about the audio environment in a vehicle interior. They can be noisy places. External noise from wind, road, and other traffic can all conspire to destroy your in-vehicle listening experience.
Although such things cannot be completely overcome, there are ways we can quieten your journey, allowing more music to reach your ears.
The best place to start is in reinforcing the thin metal and plastic panels that keep extraneous noise at bay. Your doors are likely to be made of paper-thin steel. This vibrates and actually amplifies external noise. It is also not ideal to place speakers right in front of them. Reflected sounds from wobbly metal panels can cause subtle but noticeable issues with the sound coming out of the speaker cone. Reducing reflections helps to quieten and stabilise these panels.
In some cases, this treatment will not be restricted to doors; it may even extend to the roof, floors, and all bulkheads, with sound-deadening material liberally applied. Yes, this adds weight, but it can also transform a rattly old van into a luxurious drive, for instance.
Once stabilised, the door panels can also be applied with a choice of sound-absorbent materials, which will again capture sounds you don’t want. Dispersing the back waves from speakers is also a great idea. This leads to better output from the front of the speaker, offering a significant hike in performance inside a vehicle.
There are many materials and products available for sound treatment. We recommend Skinz, which offers a wide variety of products to help with these problems. Skinz also offers waterproof collars to protect the back of your speaker from moisture ingress and condensation.
