Top Tunes
This publication does nothing of use if it does not inspire readers to listen to more music. Not necessarily music outside of their normal sphere of influences and not necessarily music that takes them away from any comfortable musical environs they are quite happy within, but to us, music is the most important thing. This final list of music recommended to us during the writing of the various features in the magazine is listed out so that you can see if anything takes your fancy. It is also quite an interesting measure of genre preference although we advise you not to read too much into this. All music is valid whether made by a major-label-sponsored band of pretty boys or a goat farmer in the Himalayas and people have the right to listen to whatever they like. I am always surprised by the amount of time, effort, and worry that people put into selecting five songs to accompany their feature. People are clearly very concerned that they may be judged by the music they listen to. Don't worry folks, you can listen to what the hell you like but do it for yourself not to satisfy some pre-imagined ideal invented and promoted by popular media whose life is only made easier if everyone thinks and behaves in exactly the same way!
My four steps to musical heaven are:
1. Get a system upgrade in your car
2. Fill the car up with petrol
3. Grab a handful of CDs from your collection
4. Drive and listen in the knowledge that no one can touch you for it!
