Top Tunes
A self-indulgent list masterminded by me. Once a huge Prog Rock fan, I continue to refer back to some of the masterpieces that took me from a classical training in music to the self-proclaimed omniscient music-lover I have become. The trigger for this list was a memory of sitting in Kevin Ford’s Classic Merc (see feature article above).
Many prog albums have been retouched, updated and re-rendered in Hi-Res. I particularly enjoy those that have been electronically reimagined by Steve Wilson, who also wrote and recorded our not-so-hidden track this month. See what I did there?
Cinema Show - Genesis (2007 Stereo Mix) - More movements than a symphony, one of which seems to be in 13/8 time.
Wait - Camel (- I can See Your House From Here, Expanded Edition) - If only for the horny keyboard duel!
Easy Money - King Crimson - don’t even try counting the time signatures when listening to this band; you will go mad! - Do listen to the 24-bit 96kHz version if possible
Unidentified (Flying Being) - Steve Hillage (2007 Digital Remaster) - One of my favourite guitar solos of all time (2m47s). Joe Blocker’s drumming - wow!
Perpetual Change - Yes (Steven Wilson Remix) - The full versatility of Steve Howe is on display. A multi-faceted piece of music.
Well, that was fantastic fun to put together. Slimming all those years of listening down to five songs is tough. Why not have a go and send a top five to us to share with other club members?
