Happy New Ears?

January aural optimism

Hello there folks (major clue to this month's hidden track here!) and welcome to a new year full of fresh in-car audio opportunities. This month we will be musing over the sound quality from factory standard head units as well as bringing you news and knowledge from the world of car audio. We are building now, to the launch of issue six. It does take some time to get the magazine together but we are hopeful that we will have a superb issue for you all to see by April (Yikes, better get on with it!)
Don't forget to have a click around for the hidden track (Sometimes I hide it behind the main image at the top of the news bulletin - Ooops, what a giveaway!). Drop me a line if you find it and I will give you a mention in the next issue! email me at: editorial@drivingsounds.co.uk

Sneeky Peek

Hertz Mille Pro - Sound beyond the norm!
In the last issue of Driving Sounds Magazine we told the story behind the development of Hertz Mille Legend speakers. We now let you have a little look at Hertz Mille Pro. These are the baby brother of the Legend line and are aimed at those who want the high energy super efficient dynamics of the Legends but may not have the budget to go all the way - Although I have not heard them yet, they read very well and I know enough about Hertz to make me confident that they will surprise and delight those who purchase them! Top Five Driving Sounds

This month's top five comes from lucky prize winner Curtis Coulter. Running a 12" subwoofer powered by a Hertz HCP 1D amplifier, Curtis now has a set of Audison Prima APK 6.5's to add clear dynamic high's to his powerful low end! Below is a list of tracks Curtis is enjoying with his new set up in his new Seat Leon. An amplifier to add a bit of extra control to the Prima's is next on the agenda for this very happy club member.

Hardwell and DallsK - Area 51

Dimitri Vegas, Moguai & Like Mike - Mammoth

Zhu- Faded

Darude- Sandstorm

Sub Focus - Turn Back Time

Car Audio - Awesome source?

This month I was startled to hear a CD source unit in a high-end car introduce so many sonic discrepancies into the signal chain of a brand new system build that they rendered CD far inferior to music streamed via Bluetooth from a phone! I had previously believed factory CD players to be OK. Now I am seriously worried. Go here to read our findings: http://www.fourmasterscaraudio.co.uk/caraudio/quality-of-standard-cd-players-in-cars-called-into-doubt/

Curtis Coulter was one of our lucky five to win Prima speakers in our pre Christmas prize draw and has offered the following feedback.

"Thank you so much for organising my Prima speaker install for me. I was so pleased that I decided to go to Phil at Audio Advice. I have dealt with Audio Advice before and felt they really know what they are doing. Phil called me soon after our initial email exchange and the car was booked in. The install took a little longer than Phil expected but despite this he did a great job of installing the speakers and applied plenty of sound deadening to the car doors which are now rock solid inside and out. Although currently running the new speakers directly from the stock head unit, there is an astonishing improvement in the clarity of sound and the stereo image. I was already running a Hertz ES300 in a sealed box powered by a Hertz HCP 1D amplifier. I look forward to returning some time to have an amplifier fitted to drive the Prima speakers with."

We love to hear your feedback so please feel free to email any comments or ideas you have to me at: editorial@drivingsounds.co.uk

RIP David Bowie - The ultimate musical chameleon

There have been many, many tributes in the media to this great man. I am not sure I am worthy or capable of adding anything further to these. The best tribute I could think of was to purchase three albums; The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory and Ziggy in HD form (24bit, 96kHz flac files). I have returned frequently to these albums since I first heard The Man Who Sold the World aged 12. To me he was the consummate rock genius particularly when writing and recording with Mick Ronson who sadly died of cancer in 1993 aged just 46. His legacy is his work and there is plenty of it and it is all of the highest quality. It would be most disrespectful to consider any of his 25 albums his best work - They are all his best work and will be enjoyed by millions for many years to come and quite rightly in my opinion.
