How Long?

The Monthly Not So Hidden Track Is Right Here - Shshshshshhh!

Only Music Can Fix The World Now!

Howdy Driving Sounds Club members and welcome to the end of January. I have spoken to many folk recently and they are all getting fed up with current restrictions. There is plenty of evidence on the roads that for some anyway, life is going on as new normal. This is great as it means folk are in their cars and wondering what they can do to get better sound out of their shocking standard factory installed "systems". As always we are here to help.

There is no "facebook hack" or cheap trick to help unlock the imagined potential of a standard system. It requires work and that requires investment. For those who have upgraded before, they know the score and prepare themselves when budgeting for a new vehicle. For the vast majority however, they still do not know what is possible.

This month we are going to focus our attentions on the Hertz Mille Legend range but there is also a small mention of the evergreen singer/song writer and soulster, Paul Carrack, as well as a comment from the actual Snake Davis. Read on for musical fun and frolics!

A couple of issues ago, I was privileged to meet Saxophone legend Snake Davis, who invited me to sit in his Audio A6 All Road and listen to his freshly installed Mille Legend speakers. The experience had a long-lasting affect on me. I remember the sound of this fabulous Source Sounds installation as if it were yesterday.

This month, we thought we would reiterate Snake's Top Five from his article in issue 6. These were the first tracks I listened to on Mille Legend speakers and they all demonstrate perfectly, why these speakers are so popular!

For Once in My Life - Stevie Wonder

Shenandoah - Van Morrison and The Chieftains

St. Louis Blues - Herbie Hancock

Red Rain - Peter Gabriel

Agolo - Angélique Kidjo

My Top Five

Our featured track this month comes from the legend that is Paul Carrack. His long career has taken him all over the musical landscape and it is almost inconceivable that anyone living has not heard his fabulously soulful voice on some track or other.

The track featured (click the link at the top of this newsletter) is the first one I heard him sing and remains one of my favourites - In this live reimagining, the song is elevated by some great playing and an imaginative arrangement. It was recorded live at Birmingham Symphony Hall, 2017 and is the first song he ever wrote. As well as stints in, or guesting with bands (ACE, Roxy Music, Mike and the Mechanics, Squeeze etc.) his solo work and tireless touring have lifted him to legend status.  (Shameless link to other content this month!)

I caught up with Snake Davis the other day, as I thought I remembered him saying he had worked with the great man. Snake had this to say; "I really love working with Paul, best UK male soul voice I reckon.
I did a couple of nights as featured solo-ist on his five disc live compilation.

I also had a wonderful night at the Albert Hall, a tribute to Bobby "Blue" Bland. We were the house band for Paul Carrack, Van Morrison and Mick Hucknall all singing his songs."

This is a particularly trying time for musicians who are suffering the ill effects of both COVID and the shameful lack of consideration when Boris recently threw together his supposedly "Oven Ready" deal which has in fact, turned out to be as bad as no deal for musicians amongst others. Musicians really do need our support now more than ever. Find out more about the brilliant Snake Davis here:  www.snakedavis.rocks  and watch how he has been continuing to dedicate his life to music, a particularly delicate way of making a living, despite current restrictions here: www.youtube.com/user/snakedavistv/live

Until Next Month Friends,

Carl
