Christmas is a time for good music. Unfortunately, things don't always work out that way.........

Christmas is coming - The bass is getting phat!

Hello loyal club members and welcome to this the Christmas newsletter. "Wot, no cheesy Christmas-themed image linking to a really bad Christmas song?" (I dare you to try it!) - Well, no, instead we went with an image of the magnificent new subwoofer and enclosure the Audison Prima APBX 10 DS. I must admit to already feeling a little "tinsel tired" and have decided to keep my powder dry until the big day! However, we still have some alternative Christmas tunes which I have this year appended to my somewhat sombre closing memories of car audio times gone by at the bottom of this bulletin. Along with this there is a cheeky glimpse of Driving Sounds Magazine lingerie in our embryo, which this month focusses on a meeting I had with one of the finest saxophone players ever produced in this country - along with Mel Collins! - Snake Davies needs looking up, such is the depth and breadth of work he has contributed to since the eighties. The meeting and the finished piece are looking very good but I can't show you everything just yet - After all for many of you, this is our first date! - Read on for seasonal fun and frolics.

What do snakes eat for breakfast?

We have no idea, but we do know what this particular rare breed has installed in his car and just how good it sounds. If you would like to know also, hit the link or the image above for a brief synopsis!

Sub bass in the car - Is any better than none?

Regular readers will know that I am not always enamoured with overbearing bass. Here FOUR MASTERS explain why! Click the image above or this link to read more: http://www.fourmasterscaraudio.co.uk/caraudio/sub-bass-in-the-car-is-any-better-than-none/

Driving Sounds Magazine

We still have a number of rare and precious printed copies of Issue VI available for you to buy - These make great stocking fillers (HEALTH AND SAFETY ANNOUNCEMENT - make sure you have removed your stockings first!) - Alternatively, you can purchase the entire issue as a download although we are still puzzling over how you would get a download in your stockings......unless they are web enabled or something?

Phat and all that

Rediscovering the "P" word has sent a wave of nostalgia through my body by way of a shudder of revulsion. Back in the bad old days, we heard the word all over the place in the context of four 12" subwoofers crowbar'd into the rear of a Vauxhall Nova or Citroen Saxo. Unfortunately, it never had musical connotations and was more synonymous with causing a nuisance. These days, the essence of those four 12"ers has been boiled down and distilled into just one 10" being driven with an audio amplifier rather than some MIG-Welding apparatus that added nothing musical to a car that was probably rocking some very average 6 X 9's for full range anyway!
There are still those who work hard at bending the needle on a SPL meter - Happily, these folk tend to stay up their own end of the field these days along with cheap air ride installers and 6" X 9" equipped rear shelf purveyors! - Each to their own I suppose.

I promised a list of odd Christmas-themed songs and here they are. Four of them are extremely unusual while the final one is a tribute to Greg Lake - a great musician with a huge pedigree and loads of talent who left our world on the 7th December 2016 - I sincerely hope this is the last musical great to leave us this year. I think we have all had quite enough for now!

Christmas Card from a Hooker in Minneapolis - Tom Waits
Sleigh Ride - C3PO & R2D2
Merry Christmas (I don't want to fight tonight) - The Ramones
All I Want For Christmas is a Dukla Prague Away Kit - Half Man Half Biscuit
I Believe In Father Christmas - Greg Lake

Wishing you all a Merry Christmas and a Peaceful New Year (but not in the car!)

Best wishes from all at Driving Sounds Magazine
